Lloyd Cooper spent summers in the South Highlands area when he was a boy. Through his mother, Minnie Gray Cooper, sister of Helen Gray Vogelsang (part of the Freeland and Eva Gray Family ), Lloyd was related to the Gray Vogelsang family , and would come to the cottage area for time in the summer. Lloyd went to the UofM for his undergraduate degree and for his LLB in Law. He met his wife, Charlotte Weimer, who graduated from the UofM as a nurse and supported him through the remaining years of Law School. In 1934 Lloyd and Charlotte, with two boys, Lloyd Jr. (1929) and Bob (1932), bought the back half of the Nardin property (the official deed was dated 1938) on which they built their cottage, starting construction in 1935. The cottage was finished in 1936 with an ouside pump and an outside privy. In 1940, in anticipation of their baby girl, Susan, a bathroom and another bedroom was added to the cottage, putting the privy now inside and a motor to the hand pump providing for running water. Lloyd died in 1963.
